Noël Royal Christmas

The University of Ottawa Choir, an ensemble of some 50 accomplished musicians, under the musical direction of Robert Filion, performs at least two concerts of challenging choral repertoire each year. During the silence, suffering and isolation of the pandemic, our two virtual concerts in 2020 emanated joy and hope in a celebration of Christmas 2020 and a burst of music welcoming spring 2021. We recently moved to a hybrid model of choir, with some choristers singing masked and distanced at live rehearsals, and others participating via Zoom from home. Our fall live concert program, Noël Royal Christmas, celebrates Christmas in the Sun-King’s court in Versailles then transports you across the English Channel to join Queen Victoria in Windsor Castle. In spring 2022, we look forward to a concert with the University of Ottawa’s student choirs, reflecting on, and celebrating our passage through, difficult times: Through adversity, the spirit prevails. Both concerts will be recorded and posted on our website.

Adaptation to the new reality has come at a cost. Ticket sales and advertising revenue, our main sources of income, took a sharp downturn. Costly sound and recording equipment and tech support underpin our continuing work. So, we turn to you to help us deliver balm for the soul.
