On behalf of the board, staff, volunteers and, most importantly the people we serve, we at the Comox Valley Hospice Society so deeply appreciate the generous donation.
We help people, young and old from all walks of life, come to terms with the one thing facing us all – death – which can creep up on us when we’re busy making other plans or which can come unexpectedly out of nowhere. In doing this though, what our staff counsellors and trained volunteers actually do is support people to help them live life to the fullest. Many of the people we help are in the final phases of life-limiting illness.
Our goal is to support people so they are comfortable, so they are able to participate fully in decisions that affect them and so they have the best care and quality of life until their lives come to an end. We do this in people’s homes, in hospital, in residential care facilities and also in our new homelike care setting—Hospice at The Views https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcST1VHgLis .
As a society, we make plans for vacations, retirement, weddings and even births, but rarely do we consider what we would want and what things are important to us when facing our own mortality. Our trained volunteers facilitate workshops to help interested participants develop their own Advance Care Plans. Should you wish more information for yourself or loved ones on planning for health care in the event they someone is ever unable to speak for themselves, please visit our very user friendly Advance Care Planning website for more information on workshops and resources— www.AdvanceCarePlanningCV.ca .
